monument of wind

January 21, 2017

zzwind

such a big man
you tell people what to do
you can scream and you can threaten
you can fire people too

personified destruction
a walking fist
knocking things over
to show that you exist

so full of empty
a monument of wind
a maelstrom of hollow
surrounded by skin

Silly Silly Grownups

January 12, 2017

zzgirlpuppy

Got a shark from Gramma
It was soft and it was blue
It had some scary teeth
It tried to by me too

I wrestled with my shark
And ripped apart his hide
That mean and scary fishy
Was all cotton balls inside

“Whatever did possess you?
Goodness gracious Daisy Mae!
We can’t show this to Gramma”
I heard my mother say

Then I got in trouble
So I kicked and I cried
Nobody told me that the shark
Was not a shark inside

Daddy bought a puppy
To be my very own
My parents were frightened
To leave us alone

Silly silly grownups
Don’t they realize?
I know that my puppy
Is all puppy inside

Pull Yer Head Out

January 9, 2017

zzzdenial

Do you think
You’ll be safe
If you stick
Your head up there?
You should find
A better place
Before you run
Out of air

There isn’t
Sanctuary
Where the sun
Doesn’t shine
The world is
No less scary
And you’re gonna
Wreck your spine

It’s gonna
Hurt a lot
But you gotta
Pull it free
Don’t waste
The life you got
Pretending
Not to see

New and Improved

January 7, 2017

zznewandimproved

We’re proud to announce
It’s incredible to see
A sensational development
A new and better me

The improvement is amazing
It’s finally here
Compare to other products
It’s remarkably clear

From our team of experts
This miraculous device
A revolutionary bargain
At a startling price

It’s quick and it’s easy
It’s coming to your town
Accept no other offer
We won’t let you down

Introducing our new strategy
It’s guaranteed to work
Time to tell the truth:
I was a stupid selfish jerk

I’m sorry and I love you
I’ll be a better man
It’s a limited-time offer
So get me while you can

Hole

December 19, 2016

xxsinkhole

Even though you’re tall
You’re fragile and you’re small
You try and try to hide it
You build a giant wall

Your childhood was sad
You had an ornery dad
The other kids didn’t like you
You became an angry cad

Carrying the germ
You live to make men squirm
A feeble-hearted man
With the compassion of a worm

No achievement can console
Your bruised and twitching soul
Gobble and devour
You will never fill the hole

The one that says there isn’t any pain

December 10, 2016

Monitor the voice inside your brain
Don’t scamper and pretend it isn’t there
The one that says there isn’t any pain

Listen for your truth and don’t campaign
Focus on yourself and don’t compare
Monitor the voice inside your brain

The voice that tries to keep a body sane
The voice that keeps repeating, “I don’t care”
The one that says there isn’t any pain

Repeat, repeat, repeat a lie in vain
Anesthetize against the truths that scare
Or monitor the voice inside your brain

Live your hurt and don’t deny the rain
Analyze your thoughts ever aware
Of the one that says there isn’t any pain

Release your mind and jettison your chains
A universe awaits you if you dare
To monitor the voice inside your brain
The one that says there isn’t any pain

Profound Questions without answers by Don Bray

Strange creatures—earthlings–formed from unmoltening volcano indigestion,

Water and oxygen from rock chemicals recombined over millions of years

Mixing then arising earthling life–you and me.

We are given to farting and vomiting.

We are attracted to each others’ asses. We reproduce.

We like to sing and dance; not really knowing why we live, prone to war and susceptible to disease.

We create complex math and gods. Then we worship the gods.

Over time hundreds of American Indian cultures die and their gods die with them like “the famous 1,000 lost golf balls.”

Worldwide thousands of gods die.

People believe in the current god crop.

Earthlings won’t admit that they don’t know how they came to be and the gods can’t help.

Neither can science, philosophy or religion.

Discover meaning in the dazzle of life, or in the splendor of the cosmos.

life only hungers for itself

October 31, 2016
Edna St. Vincent Millay

Edna St. Vincent Millay

Whether or not we find what we are seeking
Is idle, biologically speaking.

Edna St. Vincent Millay, I Shall Forget You Presently, My Dear

Human beings want power, love and pelf
Existence has a conflict at the core
Cuz life only hungers for itself

Sacks of need that always need to tell:
A song, a cry, a whisper and a roar
Human beings want power, love and pelf

With gluttony for ethereal wealth
We parcel and distribute shore to shore
But life only hungers for itself

Consume, consume, consume and shit and swell
An appetite that always asks for more
Human beings want power, love and pelf

We choose up sides, make teams, and then expel
Imaginary lines that lead to war
But life only hungers for itself

We take and trade and name and buy and sell
Our vanity forever keeping score
Human beings want power, love and pelf
But life only hungers for itself

Listen

zzzsunsky

the sun taught me that history is not everything.
Albert Camus

You won’t find your truth
In another person’s words
Listen to the sun
Listen to the birds

Listen to the universe
Listen to the dirt
Listen to your tears
Listen to your hurt

Listen to the lies
That dance across your head
Listen to the things you did
And not the things you said

Trigger Warning

October 21, 2016

zzzhide-bed

There’s a million scary things
To interrupt your day
Living brings encounters
That will make your feelings fray
There are unfamiliar places
There are words that people say

Here’s your trigger warning:
Time to make your way
There ain’t no safe spaces
To keep the world at bay
So leave your bed each morning
And go and face the day

You can hide in your dogma
You can hide inside your head
You can hide from scary words
That another person said

You can pitch a giant fit
You can tremble; you can twitch
Or you can try and stop acting
Like a helpless little bitch
