I fell in love with your heart
Ain’t never been very smart
My passion making me a slave
Love is gonna put me in my grave

I fell in love with your heart
Your eyes are like a paira’ poison darts
Your tender love is hollow and untrue
Lord knows what I ever saw in you

I fell in love with your heart
I knew I shoulda’ run from the start
Smiling while you cut me to the bone
I’d be so much better off alone

I fell in love with your heart
Why you gotta pick my world apart?
My soul is freezing naked in the rain
I guess it ain’t no secret I’m insane

I fell in love with your heart
Ain’t never been very smart
My passion making me a slave
Love is gonna put me in my grave

My Favorite Work of Art

My Favorite Work of Art

You raise my spirit when I’m tired and down
And reprimand me when I act the clown

You bring me coffee when I need a lift
And motivate me through that second shift

You warm me when I’m naked to the bone
You’re the reason why I never feel alone

You clean my wounds and listen to me bleed
And give my soul the sustenance I need

You heal my mind and protect my heart
That’s why you’re my favorite work of art

Cruel Crazy World

December 24, 2010

Cruel Crazy World

I go out each day
Confronting
Hazards and constraints
I bear it all
So joyfully
Without any complaints:

Traffic jams, mudslides, maniacs, bug bites
Derelicts, hurricanes, potholes, red lights
Pranksters, liars, idiots, road crews
Bad news, salesmen, rain delays and dog doo
Frustrated road-ragers, terrorists, and tidal waves
Lunatic zombies climbing right up out their graves
Bad coffee, typhoons, forty-car pile-ups
Degenerate freaks and unrequested dial-ups
Backfires, flat tires, insolent creeps
Nattering nitwits boring me to sleep
Seedy backstreet sideshow demons
And everyone is always scheming

I come home to you
And you hug
The pain away
Ready and refreshed
I’ll face
Another blessed day

You

June 13, 2010

You

If I sat down and made a list
For no else to read:
Comfort, love, security
And all the things I need
To make it in this cold, cold world
And heal me when I bleed
I’d save myself some paper
And a bunch of pens
Just by looking at your picture
Once more and again

I knew gals who stood me up
And gals that made me blue
But no one I ever met before was you

I loved girls who did me right
And girls that loved me true
But no one I ever met before was you

So there ain’t no sense in listing
All the things you do for me
My time is better spent
Being the best man I can be

I knew gals who made me cry
And gals that were untrue
But no one I ever met before was you

I loved girls who made my bed
And girls that shined my shoes
But no one I ever met before was you

How do I Say?

April 29, 2010

How do I Say?

How do I say when it’s over
I meant every word that I said
When the world we knew is dissolving
And the love we shared is dead?

How do I tell you it matters
The joy you brought to my life
When the dreams that we shared are all shattered
And you’ll never be my wife?

How can I tell you I’ll miss you
Every day for as long as I live
When the well that we drank from is empty
And nothing is left to give?

I don’t blame you if you hate me
Cuz’ right now I hate me too
I hate the whole damn world
For what I did to you

I just want to see you happy
But there ain’t nuthin’ I can do
Neither one of us will be happy
Till we get past me and you

Someday when you’re not lonely
Cuz’ you’ve found a better man
I just hope you will remember
When my heart was in your hands
