Her, a bed, a book and me

August 23, 2024

Bless God that we catch faint glimpses of his brighter Paradise from occasional Heavens here.
Emily Dickinson

Her, a bed, a book and me
I kissed her goodnight
And then I put her to sleep

Her, a bed, a book and me
On occasional nights
Doggie makes three

Her, a bed, a book and me
An extraordinary poem–
McCarthy's Suttree

Her, a bed, a book and me
A universe of love
And eternity

Her, a bed, a book and me
The greatest pleasures
Are actually free

I don’t need to know

August 10, 2024

I don't need to know
every place you've ever been
everything you did
every thought you ever had
ever since you were a kid

I don't need to know
where you learned to walk that way
how you fix your hair
where you got those pretty shoes
the designers that you wear

I don't need to know
the alchemy and mystery
the parts that make the whole
when dandelions and daisies
intoxicate my soul

Is it magic? Is it moonlight
That makes the evening glow?

As long as we're together
I don't need to know

just because I like you

July 5, 2024

just because I like you
it doesn't mean
you have to like me

you flirted and you smiled
I buzzed around you
like a bee
but you got bored
and left me hanging
like a monkey in a tree

just because I like you
it doesn't mean
you have to like me

just because you like me
it doesn't mean
that we're gonna be
I know I don't fit in
with so many things
you wanna be

just because I love you
it doesn't mean
you have to love me

the grave where buried love doth live

June 11, 2024

People see things
People say things
Pulling petals from a rose
People try things
People hide things
They know everybody knows

People love things
People lose things
Drift away upon a breeze
People spill things
People kill things
Eyeballs swim in salty seas

People drop things
People break things
Shards and splinters fill the past
People shatter
People splatter
Like our dreams are made of glass

Fools and Fixations

June 6, 2024

Slimy little courtier
Smiling in my face
Stabbing every back
Like you're running a race

Pain and addictions
Happy little fictions
Hiding in a story
Swearing you adore me

Lies and resentment
Bitterness and rage
Destruction distraction
The end of an age

Fools and fixations
Endless conversations
You cannot escape
What's in front of your face

Close your eyes and cloister your heart
Pretend away the hurt when things fall apart

By the Perfection of Thine Art

May 25, 2024

By the perfection of thine art
Which pass'd for human thine own heart;
By the delight in others' pain,
And by the brotherhood of Cain

Lord Byron

Fake phony nasty creepy
Crusted over smile
You're as warm and cuddly
As a crazy crocodile

Big shiny boots
Stompin on my heart
Killing all my dreams
By perfecting your art

A living nightmare
You'll never change your ways
You went out for a snack
And ghosted me for days

You slept with my buddy
My brother and my priest
My soul is despoiled
And my body's growing yeast

Those wacky sparkly girls
Always catch my eye
I'm destined for destruction
But I'll never know why

friend of a friend

April 13, 2024

We met at a party
At somebody's house
You laughed at my jokes
I complimented your blouse

Been checking your profile
Every now and then
I'm not some crazy stalker
I'm a friend of a friend

Drinking with your girlfriends
Your high school reunion
That night in Miami
Your nephew's Communion

We should really hang out
Won't you please tell me when?
We got so much in common
I'm a friend of a friend

Fate brought us together
I can feel it in my bones
Won't you give me your number?
I don't wanna be alone

How could you block me?
This can't be the end
We met for a reason
I'm a friend of a friend

impossible to shake

March 29, 2024

I told you I was poor
But you don't want my money
I told you I'm a maniac
You said I'm really funny

I told I was old
You said you think I'm wise
I told I was ugly
You said you like my eyes

I told you I was boring
You said boring's underrated
I told you I was crazy
You said I'm complicated

My jalopy broke down
You said we could bike it
I told you I'm a pervert
You said that's how you like it

I told you I was dumber
Than a box full of wood
You said that deep inside
You know I'm really good

I try to scare you off
Cuz I'm fragile and I break
I could never handle
Another heartache
Nothing seems to work
You're impossible to shake

such an ordinary guy

March 9, 2024

Like a princess and a peon
Like a duchess and a pawn
They all look at me and you
They don't know what's going on

Like an ocean and puddle
Like a mountain and a hill
Everybody sees the difference
And their angry hearts get ill

Nobody understands
No one else could ever see
What you ever found attractive
In lowly lonesome little me

If you wanna spend your time
With such an ordinary guy

Fortune smiled in my direction
Don't make no sense to wonder why
